Meeting of 10/2

This is just a reminder that there is another photography club meeting this Friday(10/2) at lunch in Mr. Iams's room (404) . This coming Friday, we will have a introduction to the basics of photography, and we will get to build a mini studio! :)

Also, we would like to remind you guys to bring in a couple of photos you like( it can be ones you took, from a magazine, or even from the internet). The reason for this is that we will be having a powerpoint on the basics or photography and it will talk about techniques that photographers use to make a photo more appealing to the eye. Therefore, it's nice to have a photo in front of you so you can find the techniques with in it. Again, we strongly urge you all to bring in photos that you took, if you can't find one and don't have time to look for one you like we totally understand, but try! Just as heads up, if we finish making a couple of mini studios then we would like you guys to take a couple of photos. Thus, we suggest you bring your cameras. Please note that photography club is NOT responsible if you camera gets stolen so please please please be care!!! If you want to photograph anything in particular like a flower, please bring it on Friday.

Furthermore, we would like to take this opportunity to remind you to bring $5 for club membership fee.

Please let your friend's know about this club, it's not to late to join!

We will NOT have meetings for the next two weeks. Our next and last minute will be on May 23. Seniors, come get your cords! The member with the most points will also be awarded.

PGLG Update

If you plan on participating in the PGLG contest, make sure you heed the following reminders:

- At our meeting this Friday, May 2, you will have the opportunity to mount your entries onto mats for a spiffy look (at a small fee). It's recommended that you print your photos before this Friday, if possible.

- Each participant may submit up to six photos, in any combination of categories.

- Fill out the PGLG entry form and attach it to the back of your mat. Each photo should have this label.

- Your photo itself should be smaller than 11" x 14".

- All participants should submit their mounted photographs to Mr. Iams by next Wednesday, May 7.

If you're planning on submitting 1-3 photos for our club Photojournalism contest, be sure to get your printed photo(s) to Mr. Iams by this Friday, March 28. You may bring your USB to bring the photos you plan on submitting to our meeting this Friday.

As a reminder, here are the rules for the contest:

- Submit to Mr. Iams by this Friday, March 28

- Must be printed (you may use the club's printer: 4x6 - $0.75, 8x10 - $1.50)

- Do not mount on a mat

- Write your name on a sticker/post-it and put it on the back of each photo

- Each person may submit up to three photos

Our meeting will be some small work on our club photo portfolio.

Finally! It's the time of the year to choose your next year's officers. There are five positions: President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Secretary, and Activities Manager. Here are their roles:

President:

- Plans and leads officer and member meetings

Vice-President:

- Stands in for the President in case of his/her absence

Secretary:

- Takes meeting attendance

- Submits almost monthly reports to ASB

Treasurer:

- Manages club funds

- Organizes fundraisers like Club Day

Activities Manager:

- Plans and organizes club activities

- Keeps track of members' points and activity attendance

If you wish to run for a position and make Photo Club even greater to spread the love of photography, simply fill out the application. E-mail us at lhs.photography@gmail.com if you didn't get one, and send it to us on Wednesday, April 9. Elections will be held on April 11. Each candidate is required to give a short speech (1 minute), and everyone will vote.

Even though all the current officers will be graduating this year (empty positions!!!!!), Mr. Iams will still be around to walk the new officers through next year, so don't be afraid to run. Photo Club doesn't eat up a lot of your time, and it's fun. :)

Our next contest theme is another category from PGLG: Photojournalism. The deadline is two weeks later on 3/28. Same printing/submission rules in the post below apply for this contest.

If you are interested in earning some points and helping beautify our campus, come join us on Campus Beautification Day next Saturday 3/22 at 9 am. Since we have a small planter next to Mr. Dybdahl's room, it will probably just take us around half an hour. The flowers and equipment will be provided. Portrait Contest

Our club portrait contest ends this Friday, March 7. Take note of the following:

- Must be printed (you may use the club's printer: 4x6 - $0.75, 8x10 - $1.50); do not mount on a mat

- Write your name on a sticker/post-it and put it on the back of each photo

- Put your photo(s) in an envelope (or any sort of paper holder) without your name on it

- Send to lhs.photography@gmail.com your digital photo entries

- Each person may submit up to three photos

All entries must be given to Mr. Iams in an envelope by the end of the school day on March 7. We do not have a club meeting on March 7 due to the fact that it is Club Day.

Printing Meeting 2/29

Tomorrow's meeting will be fully dedicated to printing your photos for our club portrait contest, since the contest will be judged based on prints. Each member may print/submit up to three photos. Note that the contest deadline is next Friday, 3/7 (Club Day and no Photo Club meeting). Turn in your contest photo(s) to Mr. Iams, and don't forget to e-mail your photo(s) to us too.

Remember: 4x6 - $0.75 and 8x10 - $1.50

Club and PGLG Contests

Our next club contest has the theme of portrait! This is the beginning of our trek to the Photographic Guild of Los Gatos (PGLG) contest, which is due May 8. See its website for more information and past winners. (We had two placers last year!)

The portrait club contest is due on March 7 and will be judged by print. This is where the club printer comes into play! 4x6 photos are $0.75; 5x8 photos are $1.50. Each person may submit up to three photos. We have no mounting rules, but if you plan on submitting your photo(s) to PGLG, take note that PGLG requires specific mounting, which we'll let everyone have a chance to do as May 8 creeps closer.

For now, take some great photos over break and think portrait!

Photoshop Workshop Tomorrow

Tomorrow is our Photoshop workshop meeting. You'll have the chance to edit the photos you plan to enter in the "Lighting or Giving" contest whose deadline is next Friday, January 18. Of course, you can also bring in other photos!

As the year begins to wane, it's time to wrap things up!

Our next meeting on December 7 will be our very last meeting for this semester. Some points of interest of this meeting include the Member with the Most Semester Points award, announcement of the next contest theme, and an activity to practice your portrait-taking skills! Be sure to bring your cameras.

This is Photo Club's point system for receiving a cord in senior year:

Club meetings 5 pts
Photoshop workshop 10 pts
Contest 5 pts
Contest winner 10 pts
Field trip 10 pts
Social & other activities 5 pts

15 pts/month * 8 months (Sept, Oct, Nov, Jan, Feb, March, April, May) = total of 120 pts/year

If you achieve 150 pts for each year that you're a Photo Club member and you stick with us until senior year, then you receive a cord to wear at your senior graduation so that you can show your dedication to Photo Club.

Very sweet. =)

[10/19] SUMMER VACATION Contest Photos
